A treat

I treated the kids to White Castle for making a donation to "sick kids" at Childrens' Hospital.
They wanted to eat inside, because they never have before and we may never again.
Most exciting was the man who suddenly had the DTs.  He swore there were bugs everywhere and his friends threw in with him and left.
No one else saw any bugs and Slane stood up in the booth and told the guy off because he was being scary.
After they left the place stabilized.

Train.

We visited the Huntington Train at the Library before Storytime.
They are reading The Nutcracker today and last year Slane freaked out so I hope for a better result this year.

Fizzies

The kids are waiting for their hot chocolate fizzies to finish.  Thanks to Aunt Nancy.
Rachael is certain Slane's has more chocolate.
It takes 5 minutes and they act as if it's a week.

Coffee

Teresa & Slane were able to meet me for coffee this morning.
The coffee shop was so crowded we had to have coffee outside.  Pretty frigid!

Slane

Slane spent the day in Bexley with Charlie & Alex.  He got to walk to school with Charlie.
Rachael had a big day too, her teacher asked her to read the morning prayer over the school PA system.

Sunday Evening

Sunday we took advantage of what must be one of the last decent evenings we'll have for a while and went to Goodale Park.  Everyone must have had the same idea, because it was packed.

Saturday the Main Library had all the kids who come to story time dress up in their Halloween costumes.  They were able to see witches, bats, monsters and go trick or treating all over the library.  They even made stew with eyeballs, worms, frogs and more bats!

Rachael was a zebra, but everyone kept guessing her for a cat?!?!  Slane was a dog and everyone knew what he was.  It was even more fun when Aunt Nancy joined us!

Audubon Park October 23, 2011

Sunday was beautiful so we walked in the Audubon park.  I wanted the kids to collect leaves for a place mat project and while we were walking Teresa noticed what she thought was a piece of dirt.  To me it looked like a piece of pavement from the trail.  When we came upon it we found it was a baby snapping turtle.  He was exactly the same color as the pavement and would have been smashed by one of the cyclists.  It was chili, which is why we are guessing he couldn’t move well so we put him back in the grass.

Aruba 2011 Sunset Sail

Aruba 2011 Bon Bini Festival

For the last 20 minutes of the show they had their Carnival performers dance for us.  This was some of the best food on the island.

Aruba 2011 Beach and Resort

Aruba 2011 The California Lighthouse

Our trip to The California Lighthouse was great.  It is on one of the highest points on the island and is named after the american ship, California, which sunk off the coast here 2 years before the lighthouse was built.
We had lunch on a beach near by and were harassed by these blue lizards looking for hand outs.

Aruba 2011 The Butterfly Farm

This was our visit to the butterfly farm.

Aruba 2011 The Buccaneer

This is The Buccaneer Restaurant.  The kids loved the huge aquarium.

It was a big day!  Rachael had her 1st breakfast with a book this year, the story was Stone Soup, one of my favorites.  It’s not always cereal and cinnamon rolls, often they have sausage and omelets.  Sometimes it smells so good I don’t know why she ever eats at home.

Slane is having a good time at the Firefly Play CafĂ©.  It is clay day and he spent the morning learning the difference between Playdo and real clay.  I’ll see which one he likes better tonight.

1st day of school

Today is Rachael’s 1st day of Kindergarten.  She was a little nervous yesterday, but when she got to school she saw all of her little friends and meshed right in.  She didn’t mind us leaving at all.

School goes from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm so she is actually spending less time at kindergarten per day than she did in pre school.

She was very excited about the uniform.  The girls are only allowed to wear jumpers, walking shorts or pants this year.

Slane isn’t going to know what to do with himself.  How will he know what toys he wants to play with if he doesn’t see her playing with it first?

Teresa will be picking her up and we are both excited to hear about her day.

North Market

It was a great at the North Market.  It was raining this morning so we didn’t take the bike.  It was so crowded with cars, the next time I’m going to brave the elements, because we had to park 2 blocks away.  Tons of great vegetables including eggplant, 12 ears of corn and purple peppers.  Who knew they actually had purple peppers.
This is Rachael and Slane helping me with the corn.

PB & Jazz

Saturday 2 friends and I took our kids to the PB & Jazz concert.  It still shocks me how many people go to something titled “PB & Jazz” and be shocked there are kids there.
All together we had 5 children there 2-5 and none of them cared about the music, the just ran around playing after we ate.

Slane did want to dance and here he is in the middle of the shot dancing with a girl, about 20, who he chatted up.
